About the Photographer

Howdy! My name is Andy Austin, and for over a decade I’ve traveled to all 56 of Montana’s unique counties to document this place I call home. I grew up just outside of Billings before heading to Montana State University, where I played football for the Bobcats. It was there that I fell even more in love with this state, and picked up a camera to start capturing the world around me. That was over 15 years ago, and ever since, one dream has stayed constant: to create a photobook that Montanans could be proud of.

In the years since, my camera has taken me far beyond Big Sky Country. I’ve photographed stories across all seven continents, from the glaciers of Antarctica to the markets of Morocco, and from the rice paddies of Vietnam to the fjords of Patagonia. I’ve worked in over 50 countries, collaborating with tourism boards, outdoor brands, and conservation groups to tell stories that matter. But no matter how far I roam, it’s the mountains of the West that always call me home.
